Windows 10 / 8 have a high contrast ratio of 14:1 between the foreground and background. In earlier versions of Windows, the high-contrast mode was limited to themes running under classic themes that were not visually designed. But in Windows 8, Windows Server 2012 and above, Classic mode has been removed and replaced by visually designed, high-contrast themes.

The user interface components that are modified in high contrast themes are:

  1. Background color of windows
  2. Text color
  3. Hyperlink color
  4. Text off
  5. Foreground and background colors of selected text
  6. Foreground and background colors of selected text
  7. Front colors
  8. Inactive foreground and background colors
  9. Foreground and background colors of foreground and background color buttons.

If you want to temporarily enable high contrast subjects, press Alt left, Left Shift and PrtScr. Do you want to set a high contrast.

Click Yes and your display will change to a high contrast gray scale. High contrast improves the readability of the display thanks to a special colour system.

To return to the normal field, press the Left Alt, Left Shift and PrtScr keys again. Your screen will flash for a moment, then you will see your usual subject again. Use this key combination to turn a high-contrast subject on or off.

To enable or disable this shortcut , you can use the Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsAccess CenterMake the computer easier to see, to change the settings.

If you want to always use a high-contrast theme , right-click the desktop and select Customize. Scroll down to see the 4 default themes with high contrast.

Select the desired topic and apply it.

If you want to adjust your high contrast theme , you can open Charms > PC Settings > Easy to Use > High Contrast.

Select the theme format from the drop-down menu and adjust the colors.

Your computer screen now displays a high-contrast subject that makes reading texts easier.

Some applications and browsers also support high contrast mode under Windows. For example, here is a screenshot of a Chrome notification that will automatically install a high contrast extension and theme when you switch your Windows 8 to high contrast mode.
