Application isolation is a new print function in Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 that isolates applications from printer drivers so that applications do not lock when a printer driver crashes, making the application more stable. This feature extends an existing Windows 7 feature (SplWoW64) to include all labeling scenarios in Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8
Disable application isolation
If your printer driver does not have all features, you can change the setting to disable application isolation.
Open the Group Policy Editor and navigate to the next parameter :
Configuration models/computer management/print/printers isolated from applications
Double-click Isolate printer drivers from applications, then double-click Enabled, then click Apply/OK to disable application isolation in Windows 8.
This policy specifies whether printer driver components are isolated from applications rather than loaded normally into applications. Isolating the printer drivers significantly reduces the risk of a printer driver failure that causes the application to crash. Not all applications support driver isolation. By default, Microsoft Excel 2007, Excel 2010, Word 2007, Word 2007, Word 2010, Word 2010 and some other applications are configured to support it. Other applications may also isolate printer drivers, depending on whether they are configured to do so.
Enabling or disabling this policy setting isolates applications configured to support driver isolation. If you disable this policy setting, printer drivers are loaded into all associated application processes.
You can also download and use these Microsoft Fix It solutions to disable or enable application isolation under Windows 8.
Repair: Disable application isolation | Enable application isolation.
This policy is supported by Windows Server 2012, Windows 8 or Windows RT.
