How to uninstall the Windows 10 Photos application with Powershell
Procedure 1:
- Close the Photo application if you have just opened it.
- In the Cortana/Windows Search box, type powerhell.
- Click on’Windows PowerShell’ when it appears – right-click and select’Run as administrator’.
- In the PowerShell window, type the following command (tip: Copy and paste saves errors)
- Download AppxPackage *Photo* | Delete AppxPackage
- The message “Progress of the deployment process…” appears temporarily. When this happens, the uninstallation is complete.
- The Photo application has now disappeared and the Windows Photo Viewer software is now used to open your images.
Procedure 2:
Step 1 – Also open Windows PowerShell as an administrator.
Step 2 – Type the command: get-app-app-appxpackage *photo* and press Enter. This command searches the package file of the Windows 10 Photos App application.
Step 3 – Locate the line beginning with PackageFullName and copy the full name (“Microsoft.Windows.Photos_2018.18081.14710.0_x64__8wekyb3d8d8d8bbwe” in my case).
Step 4 – Type the following command and press Enter. A message “Deployment progress…” appears temporarily and, if it disappears, the uninstallation is complete. The changes will take effect immediately and you will notice that the Windows 10 Photos application has disappeared.
CONCLUSION
It must be said that we do not really recommend uninstalling integrated universal applications. These applications take up very little space on your device, so it is best to ignore them if you do not want to use them.
Again, the only real advantage is that you can easily purge your Start menu. It is also likely that future updates (especially larger updates) may reinstall these applications.
