Microsoft abandoned its Outlook calendar sync app years ago, but you can still connect Outlook to Google Calendar. We will explain how to synchronize the two and see the events in both calendars.
If you need to sync Google and Outlook calendars, you have the same problem as thousands and thousands of others: There is no easy way to do this. So read this and hope that we have found the solution. Fortunately, we have several. You may think of some of them as workarounds, but if you’re willing to spend some money, there are actually solutions that should work for you.
Sharing an Outlook Calendar
Since we are going to display an Outlook calendar in Google Calendar, we first need to get the Outlook calendar link. In previous versions of Outlook, it was possible to publish your calendar from the Outlook client to your laptop, but since the introduction of Office 365, Microsoft only allows you to share a calendar with people outside your organization through the Outlook web application.
November 2024 Update:
You can now prevent PC problems by using this tool, such as protecting you against file loss and malware. Additionally, it is a great way to optimize your computer for maximum performance. The program fixes common errors that might occur on Windows systems with ease - no need for hours of troubleshooting when you have the perfect solution at your fingertips:
- Step 1 : Download PC Repair & Optimizer Tool (Windows 10, 8, 7, XP, Vista – Microsoft Gold Certified).
- Step 2 : Click “Start Scan” to find Windows registry issues that could be causing PC problems.
- Step 3 : Click “Repair All” to fix all issues.
- Log in to your Office 365 account and navigate to Outlook by clicking on the application launcher (the nine dots in the upper left corner) and selecting the Outlook icon.
- Click Settings > View All Outlook Settings.
- Open Calendar > Shared Calendars.
- In the “Publish Calendar” section, select the calendar you wish to share (if you have only configured one calendar, it is simply called “Calendar”), select “Show all details” from the second drop-down list and click “Publish”.
- This will create two links: an HTML link and an ICS link. The HTML link allows you to view your calendar in a browser and the ICS link allows you to import your calendar into your calendar program.
- Click on the ICS link and a menu will appear. Select the “Copy Link” option to copy the link to your clipboard.
Subscribe to your Google Calendar in Outlook
An Internet Calendar (iCal) subscription allows you to keep your Outlook copy of your Google Calendar up to date.
Sign in to your Google Calendar account.
- Click My Calendars in the left column to view a larger version. Hover your mouse over the calendar you want to add to Outlook as an Internet Calendar subscription. Select the colon to the right of the calendar name, and then select Settings.
- Scroll down to the Include Calendar section and right-click on Secret Address in iCal format and select Copy.
- In Outlook, click File > Account Settings > Account Settings.
- On the Internet Calendar tab, click New.
- Paste the address you copied in step 4 by pressing CTRL+V and click Add.
- In the Folder Name box, enter the name of the calendar as you want it to appear in Outlook, then click OK.
When you launch Outlook, Google Calendar checks for updates and downloads any changes. If you leave Outlook open, it will also check for and download updates regularly. (The Google Calendar tells Outlook how often to check for updates).
Conclusion
Outlook doesn’t allow Windows users to easily synchronize their Google calendar with the program, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Just follow these simple steps and you’ll have everything in one place.
Whether you’re trying to keep track of your meetings or your life, using calendar software saves your life.
