If you work at home, you’ve probably left your children sitting in front of their Xbox or a Windows PC … you’ve lost track of time and they end up playing unattended for hours. It’s easy to control on Xbox and Windows 10, so parents can set limits on the amount of screen time they can spend each day playing, and set the hours you can play.

Currently, Microsoft does not support setting time limits directly from the Xbox One. You must first set the screen time using a phone, tablet, or PC. It’s probably easiest to do this from your Windows 10 PC.

To set screen time limits for your child on Xbox One and Windows 10 devices, go to your family group and log in with your Microsoft account. Then go to:

  • Find your child’s name and select Screen Time.
  • If you want to use the same schedule for all devices, select the option Use one schedule for all devices.
  • If you prefer to manage schedules separately, scroll down and turn Xbox One and Windows 10 on or off individually. If you don’t want any screen limitations, turn off the same option.
  • If you want to give them the full time you have scheduled, leave the default setting set to Max scheduled. For example, if you give them screen time from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., they can use their device all the time.
  • If you don’t want the default setting of Max scheduled, select the line for each day to determine how long and when you allow your child to use their devices.
  • Enter your schedule selection, choose Add, then choose Save.

As parents, it can be difficult to control how long your children sit in front of the TV or play video games. Fortunately, Microsoft offers a tool that lets you control how much time your kids spend on their Xbox One game console.
