Like most browsers on the market, the new Microsoft Edge based on Chromium has rules that allow you to set permissions for each website you visit.
And of course, you can set the same rules for all pages to ensure that access to files, webcams, microphones or other files is managed correctly.
Recently, however, Microsoft has added a new permission in the latest version of Canary to further improve the security you get when surfing the Internet.
This function is called “blocking dangerous content” and essentially consists of blocking content stored on websites that Microsoft Edge might consider dangerous. Needless to say, this will help improve your online security, so it is undoubtedly a welcome addition to the arsenal of Microsoft Edge security features.
At this point, the feature is still in beta testing and will only be available in the latest version of Microsoft Canary Edge. In addition, it is not available for everyone, which means that it must be activated manually by each user.
To allow or block dangerous content in Microsoft Edge Chromium
- Update your Microsoft Edge with the latest version.
- Open the website of your choice in Edge Chromium.
- Click on the location information icon (padlock) in the address bar.
- Click on Location Authorizations.

After that, content blocking will be enabled in Edge. Users can also configure this function to block page based content. To do this, click on the lock icon on the left side of the browser’s URL bar. Then click on Location Permissions and select a setting for unsecured content.
Microsoft will launch Chromium Edge for Windows 10, 8.1, 8 and 7 with the macOS platform early next year.
