A new notification will appear on Windows 10 devices that are not ready to receive the Windows 10 May 2019 update. Version 1903 of Windows 10, also known as the May 2019 update, has recently been made available to those who have manually checked for an update via the Windows Settings application. Although the update is available, this does not mean that all devices can download it. This is due to the fact that some hardware is not supported and some devices do not have the necessary drivers to upgrade to Windows 10 version 1903.

If you manually search for an update on an unsupported device, you will see this message :

The Windows 10 May 2019 Update is on its way. We’re offering this update to compatible devices, but your device isn’t quite ready for it. Once your device is ready, you’ll see the update available on this page. There’s nothing you need to do at this time.”

This is a useful clarification, as many users have expressed frustration and confusion about the availability of the May 10, 2019 Windows update. They will now receive a clearer message that their device is currently unable to receive the update.

Wait a while and try again

First of all, you don’t have to worry about this error message. Sometimes an update of a new feature may be incompatible with certain hardware, drivers or software installed on the user’s computer. In this case, if the user attempts to download and install the feature update, it may result in startup problems, BSODs, crashes, or performance problems after the update.

In the past, many Windows 10 users have reported such problems (like this one) to Microsoft after upgrading to newer versions of Windows 10.

For this reason, Microsoft has started to display this error message on the Windows Update page so that users can learn that something on their Windows 10 computer is not compatible with the new version of Windows 10 and that they should not upgrade to the new features at this time.

So there is no problem with your computer. It’s just that the new Windows 10 feature update is not compatible with your device hardware or software.

Use Windows 10 Update Assistant

It is known that Microsoft installs updates on devices that are not compatible with feature updates. However, if you think this is a false alarm, we strongly recommend that you use the Windows 10 Update Wizard to download or install these updates. If a compatibility issue arises, you may need to manually resolve the problem later by updating software and drivers.

Delete the Software Distribution and Catroot2 folder

Reset Catroot2 Folder

Windows Update downloads all update files to dedicated folders, and if something goes wrong with the files, you may encounter problems. Windows Update may try to fix it internally, but it crashes again. If this happens, follow our detailed instructions to remove all the contents of the Software Distribution and CatRoot2 folders and restart the download.

Troubleshooting Updates

We cannot go through an update troubleshooting process if we exclude integrated update troubleshooting.

This particular tool is often used to reset update services and should hopefully resolve the impasse in the update order.

However, the success rate of Unified Troubleshooters in Windows 10 is quite low and chances are you will have to browse the list further.

In any case, here’s how to run the Windows Update troubleshooter in Windows 10 :

  • Press the Windows + I key to open the settings.
  • Select Update and Security.
  • Select Troubleshooting in the left pane.
  • Expand Windows Update Troubleshooting and click Run Troubleshooting.

This should do the trick. We hope that one of these steps has helped you resolve this issue. Finally, be sure to let us know in the “Comments” section below if there are other ways to correct this error.
