The vulnerabilities of Spectre and Meltdown were by far one of the worst in recent years. Software patches have already been released, but the problem seems to go further. Meanwhile, patches have begun to take effect, sporadically freezing or booting some computers. Intel has now released patches and fixed bugs for most vulnerabilities. Patches were also created for the Windows operating system, and it was only then that Microsoft discovered that many antivirus programs were incompatible with the update and were causing blue screen errors.

The incompatibility issue has destabilized Windows, and Microsoft has decided to retain security patches for all versions of Windows. Meanwhile, the company sent antivirus vendors and asked them to set a registry key to help them mark their antivirus as compatible with the newly installed patches.
The problem
Microsoft has not stopped and they have a rule that security updates are retained until some registry key is present. Perhaps Microsoft hoped that anti-virus companies would comply more with this rule. As planned in March this year, Microsoft has lifted the restriction for users of Windows 10. For Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1 users, however, the restriction has been maintained.
In recent versions of Windows (10 and 8.1), the registry is automatically configured by anti-virus, and there is no problem as such. However, you have problems if you run Windows 7 without antivirus. In this case, because there is no antivirus that defines the registry key, Microsoft retains the future update of Windows. Strangely, you will be blocked without Windows Update, a feature to improve the security of your system inadvertently blocked your security updates.
The solution
The solution was hidden in Microsoft support documents. Before continuing, the solution to this problem is twofold. First of all, all this can be managed by installing Microsoft Security Essentials for free. After installation, a security key is created for your Windows 7.
Another solution is to manually set the registry value to enable security updates. To do this, enter the registry value from the Microsoft support page.
Open the Registry Editor and go to the location below,
0x00000000HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsStromVersionQualitätCompat
Right-click the QualityCompat button and select New>DWORD value and enter the value as follows ein-
0x00000000cadca5fe-87d3-4b96-b7fb-a231484277cc
The value must remain unchanged from the default value 0x00000000.
You can now close the registry editor and your Windows 7 machine should start downloading the latest updates.
