Data Execution Prevention (also known as Execute code) from memory incorrectly, DEP closes the program.
Here are answers to some common questions about Microsoft Help Data Execution Prevention (DEP).
What programs does the DEP monitor? 12)
The DEP automatically monitors important Windows programs and services. You can increase your protection by having all programs monitored by DEP. To increase DEP protection, see Changing Data Execution Prevention Settings.
Yes, but only if you leave DEP enabled for this program so that Windows can continue to detect code execution attempts from protected locations and prevent attacks.
If DEP keeps closing the same program, will my computer be attacked? If you use the recommended security settings and your antivirus software has not detected a threat, it is unlikely that your computer will be attacked. In this case, the program may not run correctly when DEP is enabled. Before changing the DEP settings, check if a DEP compatible version of the program or an update from the software manufacturer is available.

How can I prevent DEP from closing a program I trust
First check if a DEP-compatible version of the program is available by visiting the software manufacturer’s website. If the publisher has not published an updated and DEP-compatible version of the program, you can disable DEP for the program that has been closed. You can use the program, but it could be vulnerable to an attack that could spread to your other programs and files. If you choose to disable the DEP for a program, it is a good idea to check regularly for an updated version of the program and reactivate the DEP after updating it. For more information on disabling DEP for a program, see Changing Data Execution Prevention Settings.
What should I do if DEP closes a program that is part of Windows, like.exe or explore.exe
? The.exe and explorer.exe programs are part of the Windows operating system. When DEP closes them or other Windows services, the cause may be smaller programs, such as extensions, created by other software vendors and running on Windows. If you have recently installed a program and find that DEP closes Windows based programs, check with the software manufacturer to see if an updated and DEP compatible version is available, or try uninstalling the program.
If my DEP settings indicate that my computer processor does not support hardware DEP, am I still protected? Yes. DEP is a Windows software function. Some computer processors also offer hardware DEP under different names. These processors use hardware technology to prevent programs from executing code in protected memory areas. If your processor does not support hardware DEP, Windows uses software DEP to protect your computer.
If you want to protect all programs, you can disable DEP for individual programs. If you suspect that a program is not working properly when you turn on DEP, check if there is a DEP compatible version of the program or an update from the software manufacturer before changing the DEP settings.
