If Skype is installed on your computer, you can chat with your friends via video or instant messaging, but if the sound doesn’t work properly, it can be difficult to communicate. Skype recommends that you and the person you are trying to talk to make sure you are using the latest version of the software. In addition, a slow Internet connection can cause problems. Skype requires a minimum bandwidth of 128kbps for video calls. Also connect to Skype on your computer and try some basic troubleshooting steps.

Skype audio does not work on Windows 10, how can I fix it?

Skype is an excellent application, but many users have reported audio problems with Skype.

Check Skype audio settings

If your Skype microphone doesn’t work, you can test your microphone (and speakers) in the Audio Settings section. Open the Options window in Skype by clicking on Tools > Options.

To test your microphone, talk to it. You should see the green volume bar under Microphone moving as you speak.

If the volume bar does not move, click on the drop-down list next to Microphone and select another device. Keep trying different devices until you see how the volume control moves when you speak. If necessary, try using your phone as a makeshift microphone.

Make a test call

Search your Skype Echo / Sound Test Service or Skype Test Call (echo123) contact list. You can also search for it by simply typing “echo” in the search field. Select the contact and click on Call.
The sound test will ask you to speak, and later it will return your message to you. If you can hear your own voice in the recording, it means that your audio devices are working well and you are ready to make this call.

Restart the Windows audio service.

If you start the Windows audio service (if it is stopped) and restart it (if it seems to work), you can fix the problem that Skype Audio does not work on your Windows computer.

  1. Right-click the Windows 10 Start button and select Run from the menu that appears.
  2. In the Run Command services.msc field, type services.msc and click on the OK button.
  3. On the Services screen, right-click on Windows Audio and click Start (if the service is not launched). When the service is running, click Restart or Continue.
  4. Once the process is complete, restart your computer and check if Skype Audio is working on your computer.

Update your audio drivers
