Have you ever encountered a problem where your Windows PC does not boot properly after booting? This can happen after a sudden power failure or after upgrading your PC to a newer version. When you turn on your computer, Windows 10 displays an Automatic Repair screen with the message Your PC has not started properly. Your computer can display Prepare automatic repair followed by Diagnose your PC before the message Your PC has not started correctly.

The first recommendation would be to restart the PC and see if this helps. But sometimes this problem can persist even after several restarts. A damaged MBR or BCD file or hardware changes could be the cause.
If the message continues, these troubleshooting steps can help you solve the problem.
1] Then click the button Advanced Options, and you will see the following screen in the Advanced Startup Options menu.
To correct the error message that your PC did not boot correctly, you have the following options :
- See if a system restore helps you
- Run boot repair and see if it helps
- Open the command prompt and run System File Checker, DISM or Repair MBR & BCD.
Let us look at each of these proposals.
1] Click System Restore and return your computer to a good previous point and see if this helps.
2] Click the Startup Repair button to start the repair process. See if it helps.
TIP: See this message if the automatic repair fails and the PC does not start.
3] Click the button Command prompt to open a CMD window. Type sfc /scannow and press Enter to launch the System File Checker.
The system is checked for errors in the system and attempts to correct them. You will be prompted to restart the scan once it is successfully completed.
TIP: See this message if the scan found you a corrupted Windows Resource Protection file, but was unable to fix some of them.
3] Reopen the command prompt, type Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and press Enter to run the DISM tool to repair the Windows image.
Did he help? If not, you can continue.
4] Use the command prompt again to recreate your MBR with the integrated Bootrec tool (16). MBR or Master Boot Record are the data present in the first sector of a hard disk. It indicates where the operating system is so that it can be loaded.
5] BCD or Boot Configuration Data is a firmware independent database file containing boot time configuration data. It is required by the Windows boot manager and replaces the boot.ini file previously used by NTLDR. In case of start-up problems, it may be necessary to recreate this file.
To recreate the BCD file, type the following command at the command prompt and press Enter:
bootrec /rebuildbcd
This will allow you to search for other operating systems and select the operating systems you want to add to BCD.
The reconstruction of the MBR and BCD is known to be useful in such cases.
See this message if you receive a message Your PC needs repair.
