Internet Explorer 9 Beta FAQ for IT Professionals
When Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 is launched, is Windows 7 Service Pack 1 required?
As far as I know, IE9 requires 4 beta patches before it can be installed. However, its installer is downloading it and installing IE9 Beta. Even after uninstalling IE9 Beta, these updates will remain on your system. Or IE9 Final Installer can do the same, in which case SP1 may not be necessary, or perhaps not necessary, in which case SP1 is necessary.
When Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 comes out, is Windows 7 Service Pack 1 necessary?
No. Internet Explorer 9 is installed on systems running Windows 7 RTM or Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 (SP1). If you install Internet Explorer 9 on a system on which Windows 7 SP1 is installed, these additional components are already present in Windows 7 SP1 and do not need to be reinstalled when you install Internet Explorer 9. For this reason, you do not need to reboot the system if you install Internet Explorer 9 on a system on which Windows 7 SP1 is installed.
