GOF animated images are cool and useful. But they can sometimes get boring, for example when you surf your Twitter timeline or when you read a website. Movement can be distracting because it occurs automatically as soon as you load the page. This article shows you how to disable GIF and disable motion pictures in Edge, IE, Chrome and Firefox browsers and prevent automatic playback on your Windows PC.

Microsoft Edge
There seems to be no way to disable animated GIF images in the Microsoft Edge browser.
If you browse your Twitter timeline and see a boring animated GIF, click on the image and the animation will stop. Click it again and it will restart. It works for all browsers like Edge, Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, Opera and others, thanks to Twitter!
Internet Explorer
If you want to disable the animation only once, you can press Esc (16). This stops the animation. If you want to play the animation, you must update the web page.
To permanently disable motion picture GIF playback, open the Internet Options > Advanced tab. Under Multimedia, clear the Read animations in webpage check box, click Apply and exit. This prevents that only animated GIF files are read and not Java applets.
You must restart your Windows computer.
Firefox
image.animation_mode and change its value from Normal to None.
Restart Firefox. This completely disables image animations.
Firefox users must use an addon called toggle animated GIFs.
With this addon, you can stop or start the GIF animation by pressing or clicking a key combination. You can also restart animations from the beginning or turn them off by default. You must press Ctrl+M to disable or enable animation and Shift+M to restart animation.
Chrome
Chrome users must also use the browser extension. Google’s animation rules help you take control…
I will update this message when new settings are introduced by one of the browsers.
