Some Windows 10 users, especially those who have purchased new devices, report that their Windows Store applications will not start or open. This problem is found specifically in Windows 10 installations with multiple user accounts. These include some Windows insiders and those who do not have cumulative updates installed.

While Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter for Windows 10 fixes all problems you encounter and this automatic fix helps you fix the malfunction problem in the Windows store, Microsoft released this new Troubleshooter and Fixer to fix some problems.

KB3092053 specifically indicates that this problem occurs when –

Before installing Windows updates, multiple user accounts are created and one user installs or updates an application via the Windows store while other users are not connected. In this scenario, installed or updated applications cannot be started for other users and the Start menu is not closed. This scenario creates remaining invalid entries in the registry, causing conflict when installed or updated applications are started.

The applications concerned may be Cortana, Start Menu, Windows Store, etc.

Microsoft has classified this problem as new and next issue 70008 and is examining the causes and solutions. But until the problem is solved, Microsoft recommends that you download and run this troubleshooting.

If you are not sure if this applies to your system, don’t worry. Microsoft ensures that it applies to your system before you make any changes.

So if you have problems starting or opening Windows Store applications, try this Microsoft convenience store and tell us if it worked for you.

Always a good idea to create a system restore point first. 😉
