If the problem persists, uninstall and restart the audio driver so that Windows can reinstall it automatically, or uninstall the audio driver and use the HD Audio driver in your inbox.

For other scenarios, try different corrections. Let us look at them in detail.

Poor audio quality; poor sound

In this scenario, the first troubleshooting step is the same as above, that is, it looks for driver updates from Windows Update. If your device is a USB device, try another port or turn off audio enhancements if necessary. If all this fails, uninstall the audio driver and use the inbox driver (HDAudio).

Speakers, Bluetooth, headphones do not work

In this case, you can play music through the built-in speakers of your laptop, but once you connect your wired headphones, the sound will continue to play through the speakers (or not at all). To solve this problem, uninstall and restart the driver so that Windows can reinstall it. If this fails, uninstall the audio driver and use the Inbox driver (HDAudio).

Often, incompatibilities with drivers or audio software in Windows affect audio playback or recording, so it is important to confirm if audio format problems are the cause of your problem.

Go to the Control Panel and click the Sound link. Then run mmsys.cpl in your search field or at the command prompt.

Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar and select Playback devices.

Right-click your default device and click Properties.

Go to the Advanced tab and try changing your default format several times. That should solve the problem.

Check Device Manager

Enter the Device Manager in the search box next to the Start menu and press Enter. Expand the Sound, video and games controllers tab.

Uninstall your audio driver and use the built-in Windows audio driver (HDAudio).

The microphone does not work

You can select here. that Cortana refuses to hear from you. Connecting an external microphone to your computer or using headphones may work better. Try the solutions above.

If nothing works for you, you can report your specific problem to Microsoft, including the make and model of your PC, your hardware ID, and the driver version of your audio device, if a test tone worked, a screenshot of your sound, video, and game controller registers in the Device Manager, and report when your device attempts to play sound by checking the green volume bars in the sound control panel.

How do you do all this? Microsoft also gave detailed instructions !

To find the device ID and driver version of your audio hardware

Run Device Manager. Go to Sound, video and game controllers. Double-click your audio device here. Then go to the Details tab and choose Hardware IDs. Then right-click to copy and paste the IDs somewhere. Finally, select Driver version, right-click to copy the content, and paste it into a notepad.

How to uninstall the audio driver

The first troubleshooting step is to identify your default device driver. To do this, go to the sound control panel and click the Sound link.

Run mmsys.cpl from a command prompt. Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar and select Playback devices.

In Control Panel, check which device is your system’s default setting and return to your desktop.

Then enter the Device Manager in the search box and click the Device Manager application. Expand the Sound, video and games controllers tab.

In the window that opens, right-click your default device and select Test. If everything works fine, you should hear the test tones of your standard audio device.

Navigate to the Control Panel and click on the Sound link. Run mmsys.cpl again in your search box or at the command prompt.

Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar and select Playback devices. Play some audio and watch your standard device. You should see green volume bars.
