If your Windows 10 operating system is not working properly and you are experiencing problems, you should use the Reset this PC function available in Windows 10. This tutorial shows you how to reset your Windows 10 PC to factory settings without losing files.

To reset your Windows PC 10:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Click Update and Security
  3. In the left pane Select Restore
  4. In the right pane under Reset this PC Click Unpark
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions carefully.

In the WinX menu, open Windows 10 Settings and select Update and Security as shown below.

Then click on the link Recovery that appears in the left pane. Under Reset this PC, click the button Get started that appears at right.

The following window opens. If you do not want to lose your files and data, select the Keep my files option. If you choose this option, Windows deletes your applications and settings, but keeps your personal files and data intact.

If you want to delete and restart everything, select option Delete all. If you select the Delete All option, Windows asks you if you want to delete all files from all drives or only the drive on which Windows is installed. You will also be asked if you also want to clean the drives.

Once you have made your selection, you will see the next screen on which Windows tells you it is preparing things.

When Windows is ready, you will see a list of your applications that will be deleted. It also stores a list of remote applications on your desktop that you can access after the reset.

You can cancel the reset process if you wish. If you want to continue, click Next

You may receive a warning that This PC has recently been updated to Windows 10. If you reset this PC, you cannot cancel the upgrade and return to the previous version of Windows.

Click Next to continue and you will see this last screen.

A click on the button Reset starts the process, which you cannot interrupt.

The process takes about an hour and your PC can be restarted several times.

When you reset your Windows 10 PC, all applications, drivers and programs not shipped with that PC are deleted and your settings are reset to their default values. Your personal files can remain intact or be deleted, depending on your choice.

As a precaution, I always suggest you backup your data to an external drive to be sure before resetting your Windows 10 operating system.
