Managing and viewing saved passwords in Google Chrome on Windows 10 and 11 involves a few steps:

1. Open Google Chrome

Start by launching the Google Chrome browser on your Windows 10 or 11 PC. You can find Chrome in your computer’s list of installed applications or use the search function in the taskbar to locate and open it.

2. Accessing Settings

Once Google Chrome is open, you can access the password settings in two ways:

  • Using Chrome Menu:
    1. Click on the “Customize and control Google Chrome” button, represented by three vertical dots located at the top right corner of the browser.
    2. Select “Settings” from the dropdown menu to open Chrome’s settings page.
  • Direct Method:
    1. Type chrome://settings/passwords into the Chrome address bar.
    2. Press Enter to directly open the Passwords section in Chrome’s settings.

3. Navigating to Passwords Section

In the Chrome settings menu, locate the “Passwords” section. This is typically under the “Autofill” category. Clicking on “Passwords” will open a panel dedicated to managing your saved passwords.

  • Autofill Category: Look for the “Autofill” section in the settings menu.
  • Passwords Link: Under “Autofill”, find and click on the link named “Passwords” to access all password-related settings.

4. Viewing and Managing Passwords

In the “Passwords” panel of Chrome’s settings, several options are available for managing your saved passwords:

  • Viewing Saved Passwords

    Chrome displays a list of websites with saved usernames and passwords. To view a password:

    1. Find the website entry in the list under “Saved passwords.”
    2. Click on the eye icon next to the password you want to view.
    3. Enter your Windows login credentials if prompted, to reveal the password.
  • Editing Password Details

    To edit the details of a saved password, such as the username or password itself:

    1. Locate the desired entry under “Saved passwords.”
    2. Click on the three vertical lines next to it and select “Details.”
    3. Make the necessary changes in the provided fields.
  • Deleting Saved Passwords

    If you need to remove a saved password:

    1. Click on the three vertical lines next to the respective entry under “Saved passwords.”
    2. Select “Remove” to delete the password.
    3. Chrome may prompt you to save the password again on your next visit to the site.
  • Exporting Passwords

    Chrome allows you to export your passwords in .csv format:

    1. Click on the vertical 3 lines against “Saved passwords.”
    2. Select “Export passwords” and follow the prompts to save the file.
    3. You’ll need to enter your Windows login credentials for verification.
  • Managing ‘Never Saved’ List

    Chrome maintains a list of sites for which you’ve opted not to save passwords. To manage this list:

    1. Locate the “Never Saved” section within the Passwords settings.
    2. Remove sites as needed by clicking the delete icon next to each entry.
  • Auto Sign-in Feature

    This feature allows you to automatically sign in to websites using your saved passwords:

    1. Find the “Auto Sign-in” option within the Passwords settings.
    2. Toggle this feature on to enable auto sign-in or off to disable it. When off, you will be asked for confirmation before signing in to a website with saved credentials.
  • Syncing Passwords with Google Account

    If logged into a Google account, you can sync your passwords across devices. To manage this feature:

    1. Ensure you are signed into your Google account in Chrome.
    2. Use the sync option within the Passwords settings to synchronize your passwords across devices.

Password Generator

Google Chrome includes a built-in Password Generator for creating complex passwords:

  1. When creating a new account or changing a password on a website, Chrome may offer to generate a password for you.
  2. This generated password is complex, ensuring better security.
  3. Once accepted, Chrome will automatically save this password and associate it with the respective account.

Managing Passwords from the Web

You can also manage your saved Chrome passwords from a web interface:

  1. Visit passwords.google.com in any web browser.
  2. Log in with the same Google account you use in Chrome.
  3. Here, you can view, edit, and delete your saved Chrome passwords, similar to the settings in the Chrome browser.
  4. This option is particularly useful for managing your passwords across different devices.
