In mixed reality, you see and experience virtual objects mixed with the real environment within the marked boundaries of an area defined as the boundary. Borders in Windows Mixed Reality can be viewed as an area where you can move while wearing your Windows Mixed Reality immersive headset.

Why is this necessary? Because users wearing head-mounted screens cannot see what surrounds them. It is therefore important to create a boundary to avoid obstacles and collisions.

The boundary appears mainly as a white outline in mixed reality and becomes visible immediately as one approaches it. Its appearance means the end of the safety zone, so slow down your movements and avoid stretching your limbs beyond them, as you may encounter living room furniture.

Creating limits in Windows Mixed Reality is easy, but you need to pay attention to certain points. For example, you can create a limit at any time during installation by choosing Start > Mixed Reality Portal on your desktop.

Or open the menu and select Run Setup to create a new limit. When you move your headset to a new location, you must set a new limit that works for that room.

If you receive an error message when creating a limit, follow these instructions.

  1. Do not get too close to a wall or other obstacle.
  2. Be sure to hold your helmet at waist level and point at the computer while following the border.
  3. Ensure that the sensor is operating correctly and that there is sufficient light.
  4. The space you are looking for must be larger than 3 square meters.
  5. If you get stuck in a corner, start over.

Finally, if you choose not to create a limit or to delete it completely, proceed as follows.

Select Start, select Mixed Reality Portal and open its menu.

Then simply set Boundary to Off. As long as the border is not reached, you should stay in the same place.

Source.
