One of the best features of Windows 10/8 that I like is the task manager. The modest task manager has evolved over the years and now the new Windows 10/8 task manager offers a lot of information – more like Mark Russinovich’s Process Explorer. In this article, I will briefly explain some features of Windows 10 Task Manager and how to use it as a pro!

Windows 10/8 Task Manager

When you open the Task Manager, it gives you a very simple list of programs running and gives you the possibility to quit the task. This is to avoid presenting too much information to a newcomer who does not really need it.

To access detailed information, click More details to view the enhanced Task Manager.

Process tab :

See the difference? The figures appear in different colors. This is the heat map that has already been discussed here on TWC. The list is also divided into three categories

Window Process

1 Applications

Let’s talk about what we can do with the Applications section. One of the main advantages of this new task manager is that you can now see the child processes running under the parent process. The advantage? Suppose that only one of the Internet Explorer pages freezes. You do not have to complete the entire process. You can kill the frozen bill.

The next thing I noticed is that you can restart a service , that is really convenient. For example, if your Windows Explorer.exe freezes, you do not need to stop the service and restart the service, just right-click the service and click Restart.

2 Background processes and Windows processes

Background processes are only processes that run in the background and generally belong to third-party applications.

The new task manager gives you a lot of information about a background process. For example, you can search for the service on the Web if you are unsure of the nature of the service. You can click on Details, etc. for more details.

Windows processes are the same as the services you see in the management tools, but a nice little version. The reason why the dependent service is performed under the parent service is that you can check whether the dependent services are performed or not if your particular service is not started.

The Application tab shows CPU usage, memory usage, and disk usage. So, if your system crashes, you can see which application causes which part of it if it is memory or hard disk.

Performance tab:

On the Performance tab, you see the performance graph of the different CPU uses.

You can choose what you want and see the graphs : Process, threads, handles, etc., which is useful if you want to repair memory leaks. Leak treatment, etc.

Application History tab:

The Application History tab shows you the total resource consumption of Metro applications. It does not display the application information open on the desktop. For example, Firefox has been open for a long time with me – it does not show this information. I wish we had an option to show that, but this tab only shows details about subway applications. Go here to see how you can delete application usage history.

Start tab :

The Start tab is one of the features of Windows 8 Task Manager. You do not need to go to MSCONFIG to optimize your startup elements, but you can do it directly in the task manager.

The items you want to disable can be clicked and disabled immediately with the right mouse button. This would also show the Impact Startup Impact, which is a very nice feature.

Users tab:

The next tab is Users most of them are familiar, so I won’t touch them.

Details tab:

The next tab is Details, this is the new function. As its title indicates, it contains detailed information about the process running on your computer.

Right-click to get the options that most of them are the same, but a new one is Scan Waiting Chain…

Traversal (WCT) allows debuggers to diagnose suspensions and application blockages. A waiting string is an alternating sequence of threads and synchronization objects; each thread waits for the next object that belongs to the next thread in the string.

Services tab:

The last tab is Services running on your computer. Most of us know it well, because it also existed under Windows 7.

Now that you know most of the features of the new Windows 10/8 task manager, you can use it to its full potential – just like any IT professional. If I missed anything, please let me know your comments below.
