Adding Google Calendars to the Windows Calendar application

Before we talk about alternative methods, let’s briefly summarize how you can add your Google calendar to the Windows Calendar application.

You will find the Calendar application in your Start menu. To add your Google Account, click Settings (equipment icon, bottom left) > Manage Accounts > Add an account.

The application will prompt you to select your account provider. Google is listed as one of the options. Click on Google and enter your login information. Windows does the rest.

You should now see all your Google calendars under “Google Mail” in the left pane of the application’s main window. You can edit appointments as usual and add new entries.

Synchronize your account

  • To get started, you need to have your Google Account information linked in the Windows 10 calendar application.
  • To do this, go to the Start menu and select the calendar application in the upper right corner.
  • Once the calendar expires, to add a Google Account, you must find the Settings icon in the lower left corner of the application.
  • Once in the preferences menu, click on Accounts, then select Add an account.
  • From there, you will be greeted by a prompt that includes several different options. You can add an Outlook.com account, link your Office 365 Exchange account, Google or iCloud. For the purposes of this tutorial, select Google.

Create a keyboard shortcut to open the Google calendar

Type “Google Calendar” in the “Type a name for this shortcut” text box, then click Finish. The Google Calendar shortcut will now be created on your desktop. If you wish, you can move the shortcut to another folder or directory.

Right-click on the shortcut and select Properties. Open the Web Document tab and click in the Keyboard Shortcut text box. Press the keyboard key (for example, “G” or “M”) that you want to use as a shortcut to open Google Calendar. Use “G.” for this example. Click Apply and OK to save the shortcut.
