Starting with the release of Firefox 73, and already available in Firefox Nightly, Firefox users can open the browser settings to set a global zoom level. Simply load about:preferences in the browser address bar or select Menu > Settings > General to access it.
Scroll down the page to the new zoom group setting. There you will find options to change the default zoom level from 30% to 300%. Note that global means that the zoom level is also applied to Firefox internal pages, including the settings page.
Loaded websites do not need to be reloaded as the zoom level is automatically applied to them. Firefox users who only want to zoom in on text can check the “Zoom text only” box on the settings page to enable this feature.
Firefox will highlight zoom levels in the address bar if they differ from the default zoom level. It is always possible to change a website’s zoom level using Firefox’s site-specific zoom level feature, and Firefox will remember this zoom level throughout sessions.
The zoom controls allow you to increase or decrease the size of an entire web page or simply the size of all text to improve readability. We will explain how this works.
How to Set a Default Zoom Level for all Websites
To do this, first make sure you are using the latest stable version of the browser, as this option is missing in older versions. Then you need to navigate to the next location to find the new setting :
Firefox > Options > General > Language and Appearance > Zoom
Click on the drop-down menu and select the new value you want to use on all websites, and that’s it. Firefox allows you to choose a value between 30% and 300%, the default setting being 100% – if you want to revert to the original settings later, this is the value you should choose from the drop-down menu.
December 2024 Update:
You can now prevent PC problems by using this tool, such as protecting you against file loss and malware. Additionally, it is a great way to optimize your computer for maximum performance. The program fixes common errors that might occur on Windows systems with ease - no need for hours of troubleshooting when you have the perfect solution at your fingertips:
- Step 1 : Download PC Repair & Optimizer Tool (Windows 10, 8, 7, XP, Vista – Microsoft Gold Certified).
- Step 2 : Click “Start Scan” to find Windows registry issues that could be causing PC problems.
- Step 3 : Click “Repair All” to fix all issues.
Firefox also has an additional option that allows you to “zoom in on text only”. This is particularly useful if you have difficulty reading the text on web pages, but on the other hand, it does not resize other elements of a website, such as menus or images. While this option may be useful for some people, it is best to stick to the global zoom setting.
