If you have forgotten or lost your Windows 10 password for a local account and need to log back into your device, the following options can help you get started.

There are many ways to bypass a lost Windows password, but one of the easiest ways, provided there is more than one user on your computer, is to simply change the password from another account.

Before resetting, you must back up your personal files. You can store them on a USB stick, SD card or external hard drive, or store them in the cloud with OneDrive.

Add Net Local Group

Using the command line

First, open an administrator prompt (provided you have administrator rights). To do this, type cmd in the Start menu. Right-click on the Command Prompt entry and select Run as Administrator.
Type the following command and press Enter to display all users on your system:

net user

Note the name of the account for which you want to change the password, then use this command. Replace USERNAME and NEWPASS with the current username and new password for the account. If the username is more than one word, you must put it in quotation marks:

net user USERNAME NEWPASS

net user “USER NAME” NEWPASS

After pressing Enter to execute this command, you receive a message indicating that it has been successfully executed. You can now log in to this account with the new password.
