Errors on startup or loading may result in complete cessation of Xbox One console usage. This type of problem can be caused by the console not turning on, a blank screen appearing on the mapped screen, errors during startup or the console not booting outside the green startup screen. This guide presents the troubleshooting steps that can help solve these problems.

Do you have a problem with the Xbox One S not turning on or off? Well, this concern has already been expressed by many Xbox users, not only for the S model, but also for the original model and subsequent models.

The most likely reason why the Xbox One S doesn’t turn on is because of a power supply that may be either faulty or incorrectly connected. There may be other reasons, but this is the main reason.

If you have a problem with the Xbox One S not turning on or off, try the solutions below.

The internal power should be reset.

The internal power supply has built-in overvoltage protection to prevent damage to the console. To reboot the power supply:

  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 10 seconds to reboot the console.
  • Plug the power cord back into a power outlet.
  • Turn on the console.

The Xbox One S is in the wrong position.

The Xbox has two fans, make sure nothing is blocking the fans, and place the Xbox on a flat and stable surface. If these airways are blocked, the console may overheat and not turn on. Refer to this manual to learn how to replace the fans.

Re-connecting the HDMI

If the Xbox is turned on but not started and displays this error: X7361-1254-C00D7159, there is a problem with the cable connecting the TV to the Xbox. This error is caused by an HDCP handshake failure between the TV and Xbox One. Follow the instructions below to solve this problem:

  • First, connect the console directly to the TV without any external devices (like receivers).
  • If you are using an HDMI cable to connect to your TV, try changing the ends and make sure they are connected correctly. Next, try to turn the console on.
  • If this does not work, you may have a problem with the HDMI cable or the HDMI connector.
  • Try to use a new HDMI cable or change the HDMI connections on your TV.

Self-service

If you are on Method 5, it is obvious that none of the above solutions have worked for you. This means that your Xbox may have an internal hardware problem, or that your Xbox may need maintenance. There are two ways to solve this problem.

  • The first option is to service your Xbox yourself. This is a long process where you physically dismantle the console and clean/repair it.
  • The above method is not recommended if you are already familiar with this process. If you really want to do it yourself, you can watch tutorials and videos to help you do it.
  • The second option is to send a repair request directly to Microsoft. This is the recommended route.
