Some Uplay users report that Google Authenticator always gives them the wrong codes, so they can’t connect to the service and play their favorite games. Others have tried to solve the problem by synchronizing the Google Authenticator application with UPlay, but this process also requires them to use the 2-step authentication method.

Uplay is a digital distribution, digital rights management, multiplayer and communication service developed by Ubisoft to offer an experience similar to that of many other game companies. The service is offered on different platforms (PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, etc.).

Ubisoft recommends configuring 2FA with Google Authenticator, because other applications “do not work guaranteed”. To activate 2FA, you can access the security settings of your Ubisoft account on the web or click on “Configure 2-step verification” under Account Information in the Uplay PC client.

What is two-factor authentication?

Two-factor or 2FA authentication is a way to add a second level of authentication to your accounts.

We generally use passwords to connect to various services, such as our Ubisoft account. However, the use of passwords carries some risks, as they can be stolen or guessed by hackers.

The main reason is that we tend to use the same passwords or slight variations of the same passwords everywhere.

Entering Google Authenticator code without spaces

Note that even if the code generated in Google Authenticator usually contains 3 digits, spaces, then 3 other digits, you will have to ignore the space because it is just for clarity. Several concerned users we are confronted with have reported that the problem did not occur after entering the Google Authenticator code without spaces.

Most applications validate a code that contains spaces if it is correct, but uPlay is an exception. If you have already entered the codes with spaces (or if you have simply copied and pasted them in), try deleting the space and see if the problem is solved.

Set the correct date and time on your phone.

On Android:

  1. Go to the main menu of the Google Authenticator application.
  2. Select Settings
  3. Select time correction for codes
  4. Select Synchronize now

On the next screen, the application will confirm that the time has been synchronized, and you should now be able to connect with your confirmation codes.

Under iOS (Apple iPhone):

  1. Go to the iPhone Settings application. (Phone settings area)
  2. Select General
  3. Select the date and time
  4. Activate the game automatically
  5. If it is already activated, deactivate it, wait a few seconds and activate it again.
