Windows devices, especially Windows 10 tablets, often have a problem when the display starts flashing bubbles like dots. The mouse pointer jumps around the bubbles and the proper functioning is disrupted. This function is called phantom touch because the screen suddenly works on its own and seems to be obsessed with the ghost. There are a few methods you can try to solve this problem.
The ghost touch screen, also known as phantom touch, occurs when you see how the laptop screen reacts as if it had been touched with an invisible finger, but in reality it does not. The mouse pointer moves automatically, preventing you from controlling the mouse, which is common on laptops or tablets such as HP Spectrum 13, Lenovo Yoga, Dell Inspiron, Microsoft Surface, etc.
The ghost image on the screen is usually caused by a defective scanner (it is the touch screen that allows the functionality of the touch screen) or by the touch screen module (LED screen with key).
Disable visual touch feedback
- Under Start Windows, go to Application Settings.
- Choose Easy access.
- In the left field, you will see the option’Other options’. Select it.
- In the right pane, find the option “Show visual feedback when I touch the screen” and disable it.
- Click Apply, then click OK.
Check the operating status of the touch screen.
If you use your laptop or tablet with a touch screen, make sure it is not near abnormal or wet temperature conditions, fluorescent tubes, devices that interfere with the touch screen, etc. if the phantom or touch screen does not work.

Changing power management settings
Windows 10 touchscreen devices are configured to save energy, but unexpected changes can sometimes replace your touchscreen. Therefore, it is advisable to disable or disable the energy saving function of your touch screen. To do that,
- Press the Windows + X button to open a menu. Select the Device Manager.
- Then double-click on Human Interface Devices, then double-click on the list of HID-compatible touch screens.
- The action opens a new window after confirmation. Go to the Power Management tab and disable the option “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”. Click OK and restart your system.
Perform a hardware reset
Many start-up errors and other problems can be fixed by reducing the performance stored in hardware components. The decrease in stored power is sometimes called a hardware reset. To perform a hardware reset on a computer, do the following:
- When Windows is open, click Start, then click Stop.
- If Windows is not open and your computer is powered on, press and hold the Power button on your computer until your computer turns off.
- When the computer is turned off, unplug the power cord on the back of the computer.
- When the camera is off and the power cord is disconnected, press and hold the computer’s power switch for 5 seconds. The power light on or near the power switch may light up briefly and then turn off.
- Reconnect the power cord and turn it on.
CONCLUSION
And finally, we’re in a catch-all. If you have tried everything else on the list, but still have ghost keys on your interface, it’s time to admit that it’s probably broken hardware and the only way to fix it is to contact Microsoft or visit a Microsoft store to have your interface replaced.
