When it comes to conference calls, Skype makes it easy for businesses to communicate with each other. With Skype, a business can set up a conference call from head office and anyone with an active Wi-Fi connection can participate, so no hardware is required for video calls. To use the video conferencing feature, businesses need to register their Skype account to get a group subscription for video calling. Users need Skype 5.0, an internet connection and a computer running Mac or Windows. Once Skype is set up, anyone can start a video call.
Joining a Conference Call
You can have up to 50 participants in an audio conference, including yourself. The maximum number of video streams you can use in a conference call depends on the platform and device you are using. Other participants must be on your contact list. Be sure to add them before you start the call. People who don’t have Skype can also join the group call using the application’s web client. In this case, they participate as visitors and no registration is required.
Group calls with more than 25 participants are no flushing. Instead, participants receive a notification that the call has been launched and can click the “Start Call” button when they are ready. When launching a video call with less than 25 participants, you can choose to make or receive calls without ringing.
Before you start a conference call, make sure you have a stable internet connection, the latest version of Skype and a working microphone.

How to Start a Conference Call on Skype for Business
Make sure your contacts are available by first checking their current status. Then follow these steps to invite them to the conference call.
- In the main Skype for Business window, hold down the Ctrl key in your contact list and click on the names of your contacts to select them for your meeting.
- Right-click on the selection and click “Start conference call”.
- Click Skype Call.
- Your contacts will be notified and can accept or decline your conference call request.
Starting a group video conference on Skype
Although a single video conference works quite well, it will shut down if you intend to invite a group to the same videoconference. Under these circumstances, it makes sense to try a group videoconference.
- Install and run Skype on a computer, iPhone, iPad and Android devices. Click “Contacts > Create a new group…” in the top navigation bar of the main window. When a small window appears in the bottom right-hand corner select the people you want to invite to a group, then click the Video Calling icon to get started.
- Skype gives you the ability to add up to 9 other people to your group video conference. You can meet them on the same page and share files and screens, making group video conferencing much more lively, interesting and efficient.
Reconnect a call that was interrupted while using Skype
During a conference call, connections can be unexpectedly interrupted. You can re-establish the interrupted connection without having to restart the conference call as follows
The person who has been disconnected sees that the wording of the green call key changes to join the group. He or she can simply click on it to join the call.
If this doesn’t work, you can click on the “Contacts” tab to access your Skype contact list.
All callers should already be selected from your contact list.
Ctrl-click on the dropped contact and click on the green call button in the Skype client window.
The deleted contact will be added to the call and you won’t need to close current connections.
