Mass Effect: Andromeda is a great game for space exploration, but, unfortunately, many fans still have problems launching the game. When they press the play button, the game takes off immediately and one of two DirectX errors occurs. It is displayed on the screen: “DirectX can’t create a buffer” or “Direct3D can’t allocate enough memory”.
This error may also occur if the game is not equipped with enough memory. If you are running a process that requires a lot of memory in the background, the game probably lacks enough memory.
Other cases where this error code appeared were related to unsupported graphics drivers, overclocking of the system and use of multiple monitors.
If you have the same or similar problems, try the following troubleshooting steps.
Increase Paging File Size
A paging file is a virtual memory that acts as a RAM extension. This virtual memory is occupied by the hard disk, which is much slower than RAM, but allows the computer to run programs that would otherwise not work.
To increase the memory size of the swap file, follow these steps:
- Right-click “This Computer” on your desktop or in Explorer and select “Properties”.
- On the left side of the window, click on Additional System Settings. This will open the System Properties window.
- In the “Performance” section, click “Settings”. You may find it in the Advanced tab of the System Properties window. This will open the Performance settings window.
- In the Performance Options window, click Change on the Advanced tab. This will open the window of virtual memory.
- Here, select the option “Non-standard size” and enter the desired value into the fields below. It is better to enter the same value for initial and maximum sizes to avoid serious complications.
- Now try to run Mass Effect.

- Step 3 : Click “Repair All” to fix all issues.
Update Windows
Install the latest Windows updates on your computer as well as the latest graphics processor drivers. Recall that NVIDIA recently released the 378.92 driver, and AMD has released the Crimson ReLive 17.3.3 driver, both for improved Mass Effect: Andromeda performance.
Turn off the second monitor
This method can be very useful for users with two monitors. Old games simply do not support this technology, so it is better to disable them.
If this does not work, you can completely disable these monitors. However, these actions differ depending on the installed graphics card: Intel, NVIDIA or AMD.
- NVIDIA users: right-click on your Desktop >> NVIDIA Control Panel >> Display tab >> Configure multiple displays >> Disable all monitors except your PC screen.
- AMD / ATI users: open the AMD Catalyst >> Display Management >> Disable all monitors except your PC screen.
Perform an SFC scan
Damaged system files may cause different problems in the game. How to perform an SFC scan:
- Go to the beginning> enter cmd> select first result> right-click it> run command line as administrator
- Now enter the command sfc / scannow> press Enter> wait until the scan is complete.
Close third-party applications
If none of the above methods work for you, you need to check if any third-party applications that you do not use are working in the background. These applications fill up your computer and create conflicts that could lead to the specified error.
One of the errors we encountered is that Team Viewer works in the background and uses DirectX for its own purposes. This created a conflict with the game, and therefore Mass Effect Andromeda will not work. The problem with Team Viewer (and other similar applications) is that they do not close until you finish your task.
Expert Tip: This repair tool scans the repositories and replaces corrupt or missing files if none of these methods have worked.
