If you are faced with the problem that your Windows 10 laptop shuts down when you disconnect it, even with a new battery, then this article may be useful to you. The most obvious reason a laptop turns off immediately after you disconnect it is that the battery may have deteriorated. But this is not always the case, especially with newer laptops.

In rare cases, laptop batteries will simply not work as usual. This can occur if there is a short circuit in the internal components of the battery. Although most batteries are quite robust, extreme heat or cold, contact with the liquid or a strong jolt caused by the shock or fall of the laptop computer can damage the battery.

Another possibility is that the battery socket on your laptop may be damaged. This can happen for the same reasons that damage the battery itself. In addition, an overvoltage may affect the components connected to the battery. However, this is unlikely because the AC adapter (which is located outside most of the charger’s laptops) supports the main charge from the surge and protects the laptop itself.

Hard/Power Reset of your laptop

A hardware reset of a laptop resets the hardware settings, but has no effect on personal data. The procedure for a hard/power reset is as follows:

  1. Turn off the Windows device.
  2. Disconnect the charger and remove the battery from the unit.
  3. Press and hold the power switch for at least 30 seconds. This will unload the capacitors from the motherboard and reset the memory chips that were still active.
  4. Reinsert the battery, connect it and charge the device.

Check if it works, otherwise move on to the next solution.

Checking power management Settings

Have you checked whether the battery is charging or not? When fully charged, your laptop, battery or computer is in good condition, this is a power management setting.

  1. When you switch to the display properties, select the Screensaver tab, then click the Power button,
in the Power Schemas field is a drop-down window, click on it and select “Rixane Power Scheme”, it is a power switching utility that quickly switches between AC and battery when the power/charger cable is connected or disconnected while the laptop is on.
  2. If you set it to “Always on”, it will turn off when the power cord is disconnected, even if the battery is charged.
  3. This also happens with many non-HP laptops, if you do not have an HP laptop or if no “Rixane” option is available, select the “Laptop/Laptop” power system.

Troubleshooting a possible motherboard problem

If the unit does not automatically switch to the battery when you lose power, you have a problem with the motherboard. If it has not already been done:

  • Check the output voltage of the power supply and/or replace it with a power supply of known quality. You may simply have an empty battery and a defective power supply.
  • Check the status of the DC plug. It may be damaged in a way that prevents the battery from charging.

If both are good, the problem is on the Motherboard of the device.
