Security against malware on Android devices has always been a major concern for Android users. It’s not that Android isn’t safe, but Google hasn’t been able to market this security feature that has been around for ages.
At the Google I/O event, it was announced that Google has introduced the new Google Play Protect feature for all Android devices using Google Play 11 and above. The feature is not really new, but its positioning is.
Google Play Protect is an advanced and better known version of Google’s “Verify Apps” feature that has been available on Android devices for many years (uh, but very few people knew about it). The primary purpose of Google Play Protect is to highlight the old “verify apps” feature so that users know that their device is safe and secure rather than working silently in the background.
How to Enable Google Play Protect
Google Play Protect is enabled by default in all current versions of Android. However, if you’re using an older version of the operating system, you won’t have it on your device. This is a key feature and one of the ways Google tries to stop malware and malicious applications on the Android platform, and it works quite well. You should watch this video to find out more.

The program fixes common errors that might occur on Windows systems with ease - no need for hours of troubleshooting when you have the perfect solution at your fingertips:

- Step 2 : Click “Start Scan” to find Windows registry issues that could be causing PC problems.
- Step 3 : Click “Repair All” to fix all issues.
How to Disable Google Play Protect
To disable game protection, you must navigate through the Play Store. To do this, open the menu and scroll down until “Play Protect” appears on your screen. Make sure it is open and go to Settings. Uncheck the option “Scan device for security threats” by moving the box. You would be wrong to think that all problems have disappeared. Google will continue to scan your applications, device, web browser, or send information from third-party applications you’ve installed. However, applications downloaded from the Play Store are not scanned. That’s the good news! The Google Find My Device option is also available if you have successfully disabled Play Protect security.
Well, we just have to admit that it’s far from encouraging. It’s impossible to completely remove the Google Play Protect application from your device. That’s because the security is simply built into the Google Play Store. If we find a way to remove it, we’ll update this guide.
Can Google Play Protect do what it Promises to do?
Google has long been accused of not taking Android security seriously enough, so for many it’s a welcome and definite step in the right direction. However, at least some observers and commentators are also expressing serious reservations about what they see as the search giant’s attempt not only to suppress many of the freedoms for which Android is traditionally known, but also as a new attempt to gather even more data on customer behaviour. It’s hard to say what the future holds, but it would certainly be a good thing if Google could really stay the course and reduce the number of malicious applications on the Play Store without jeopardizing the inherent freedom of Android.
Now that you’re familiar with this new feature, do you think the Play Store will be a relatively safe place in the near future? Or do you think that, despite Google’s efforts, rogue developers will find other innovative ways to fight malware? Feel free to share your opinion with us in the “Comments” section below, as we look forward to hearing from you.
