Some users get error 90001 every 5-10 minutes while playing Final Fantasy XIV Online, even if they have a reliable internet connection. This issue is commonly reported on Windows 7 and Windows 10.

The players received another annoying error in the form of 90001, also known as “Server connection lost”. The game is separated from the game several times.

There is no official solution to this problem, but some players have been facing this problem for months. You can try updating your network card (NIC) drivers as suggested by Redditor WafforuDealer, or adjusting the power management settings for your network card, or see if that helps. This is usually a network instability issue, and you may even need to test a different NIC to get stable again – hopefully you won’t!

Check server status

Go to the FFXIV server status page to make sure there are no issues with the servers near you. If the server you are currently connected to appears as “Partial Maintenance” or “Maintenance”, try connecting to a different server while this error is resolved, or wait for the developers to resolve the server issue.

Make sure FFXIV ports are forwarded

If you have already fixed the possible network inconsistency, the next thing to do is determine if error 90001 is related to a network address translation (NAT) problem.

When your NAT is closed, it will be difficult for the game server to communicate with your end-user computer, so you can assume that this type of disconnection will happen regardless of which server you connect to.

Fortunately, most routers these days perfectly support open NAT using Universal Plug and Play (UPnP). Basically, this automatically opens the ports required for the game you are trying to play so that your computer can connect to external servers without issue.

If your router supports auto port forwarding, go to your router settings and enable UPnP.

However, if your router does not support UPnP, you will need to manually forward the ports required for Final Fantasy XIV Online in your router settings. However, keep in mind that the number of ports you need to open depends on the platform you are playing the game on.

Enable UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) on your router

  1. Actions may differ depending on the manufacturer of the router.
Step 1: Open your browser and go to the router settings page. The default address is usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1.
  2. Enter the router configuration page. You should be able to log in with an administrator using your username and password if you’ve never changed the default credentials. If that doesn’t work, check online for specific steps to access your router’s default credentials.
  3. On the WAN Internet Connection or Forwarding tab, on the Router Configuration tab, find the UPnP setting.
  4. Enable UPnP setting.
  5. Save changes and restart your router and computer.
