The message “Error 740: The requested operation requires an increment” indicates that WinZip has been configured to work as an administrator. Some people can do this to allow WinZip to create and/or edit Zip files in protected folders, such as the Program Files folder. This configuration works for some WinZip applications, but then poses this problem for other applications.

Change of ownership

“The requested operation requires an elevation” means that to open the file, you will need the incremented privilege of a local administrator to take possession of and access it. This way, we can change the owner of the external hard disk drive to solve the problem.

1) Log in to your computer with the administrator account.

2) Locate your external hard drive. There may be different Windows operating systems in the Computer/My Computer/My Computer/PC folder.

3) Right-click on your external hard drive. Then click on Properties.

Property information is updated for all elements of the file, including sub-containers (or sub-folders). Depending on the number of files and folders under your starting point, it will take you some time to complete them. Once it is below, you can change the security permissions for files and folders (e. g. Full Control, Read Only, Read Only, Read & Write, etc.) as you wish.

Always run the program as an administrator.

Some applications require administrator rights to be opened. If you receive this error message when you open an application on your computer, you can always try to open it as an administrator. However, this solution may not work if you already have an administrator account or if you are a member of the administrator group.

To get started, right-click on the application and go to Properties. Then go to the Compatibility tab and check the Run this program as administrator box.

Adding the Domain Administrators group to the Local Administrators group

If the above method does not work for you, if you have the error message in a domain (e. g. work, home, etc.), we can try to add the domain administrator group to the local administrator group and see if our bug is fixed.

OTHER CAUSES OF THE ERROR “THE REQUESTED OPERATION REQUIRES AN INCREASE”.

If the program is executed from another program, the user may be confronted with an error. For example, when a separate startup program is used to run an application (or game). Or, if it automatically starts installing another application after installing one. This often happens during the installation of the game, when the DirectX installer and other components are started after the installation of the main packages.

CONCLUSION

When you are confronted with the requested operation, you must first check that your account has administrator rights, then follow the instructions above.

If the instructions didn’t help you – try using some of these solutions, they could help you too:

If you find an error when saving or exporting the file, try setting another user’s folder to save or export operations (documents, images, music, video, desktop);
This method is not recommended (at your own risk!), but you can try to disable UAC (User Account Control) to solve the problem.
