Can’t Origin open on your PC? Don’t worry! You’re not alone. Many Origin users have reported this problem. But the good news is that you can fix it. You can easily fix the problem using one of the solutions listed below.
Here’s a list of fixes that have fixed this problem for other Origin users. You don’t have to try them all. Just browse through the list until you find one that works for you.
Before performing any of the recommended troubleshooting steps listed below, it is recommended that you first restart your computer. This will update the operating system and remove any corrupted temporary data that may be causing the problem.
This problem can be caused by several factors. The Origin client may be running in the background. This can be checked in Task Manager, but it does not show up on the screen. It is also possible that it is caused by a corrupt client. Here are the recommended troubleshooting steps you should follow to fix the problem.
Clear Origin Cache
You can clear the source cache by following these steps:
- Completely log out and close Origin
- Press and hold down the Windows key and the R key.
- Type “% ProgramData%” (without the quotes) and click OK.
- Now open your Origin folder.
- Delete (do not delete) all files and folders in the Origin folder except LocalContent.
- Press and hold down the Windows key and R.
- Type “% AppData%” (without the quotes) and click OK.
- You will be taken to the relocatable folder, which is in AppData. Delete the original folder
- Click on the word “AppData” at the top of the window.
- Open the local folder here.
- Delete the Origin folder specified here
- Restart your computer and log back into Origin.

Clear your PC’s DNS cache
- Press Win + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog box.
- In the Run window -> type the following command: -> ipconfig / flushdns -> press Enter.
- The command window will pop up for less than a second and the DNS cache will be cleared.
- Try to see if you can use this method to run Origin games.
Reset the hosts file in Windows 10
Every Windows installation contains a hosts file that can be used to redirect websites to specific IP addresses.
If this file is corrupt or contains incorrect information, it can cause your Internet to crash or cause problems with applications like Origin.
Open Explorer and enter the following location:
C: WindowsSystem32 \ drivers \, etc.
Find the hosts file and rename it to host.bak. (You may need to accept the file first.)
Paste the following text into the editor:
Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp. # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows. # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name. The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one space. # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual lines or following the machine name denoted by a ‘#’ symbol. # For example: # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host localhost name resolution is handle within DNS itself. 127.0.0.1 localhost ::1 localhost
Save it to C: WindowsSystem32driversetc and close the document.
Reinstall Origin
If all of the above fixes still don’t work, you need to uninstall and reinstall Origin.
- Uninstall Origin
- Press the Windows logo key and R on your keyboard at the same time to open the Run dialog box. Then type control and press Enter to open the Control Panel.
- Display the control panel by category, and then click Uninstall Program.
- Double-click Origin to uninstall it.
- Once it’s finished, restart your Windows system.
- Download the latest version of Origin, then double-click the downloaded file to reinstall it.
