It is their job anyway to recover all the information from a damaged project file with Adobe After Effects. Spending hours fixing a bug in After Effects can be a frustrating waste of time.
Speaking of After Effects, it is Adobe software for creating graphic animations. It is used for composing, capturing and tracking graphics in the context of film production. But working with ‘After Effects’ does not always go smoothly. Some unexpected errors or malfunctions can make it difficult for you.
When you work with After Effects, several errors occur, such as the software sometimes refusing to import the MOV file you are working on, or not being able to read a particular image. Whatever the defects, corrective action always begins with the search for the probable cause.
How to recover damaged After Effects files and import projects.

Move your missing files
To move your files, go to the Project tab and enter the search term “Missing”. This will display all missing files, as indicated by a thumbnail image of the TV’s color bars. Right-click on each file and select Replace Record > File. Select the file in its new location and it will immediately be restored in the project.
Purge Memory & Disk Cache
After Effects permanently stores the files used to preview the rendition in a folder on your hard disk, so you can easily access them in the future without having to render each time. This folder is called the hard disk cache, and since it fills up over time, it can cause problems in the program. The failure of the output module is no exception.
To clear or erase the cache from your hard disk, go to Edit > Clear > All Storage and Hard Disk Caches. The only consequence is that you have to wait until all previously rendered previews are rendered again when you access them again. For all the problems you encounter, cleaning the disk cache is a good start.
Start a new project and import the file.
Many of the users involved were able to solve this problem with a simple workaround solution. By starting a new project and importing the damaged file, they could access it. This is a common solution for corrupted After Effects files that have saved many users from loss of progress.
It’s worth a try. If you are still busy with this error and no longer have any options, proceed to the next step.
Use a third-party file history or recovery tool.
Finally, the only proposals that come to mind are the recovery tools. If you have configured it, you can use the built-in file history to recover the old version of the file. On the other hand, you can simply stop making changes to the hard disk and use any third-party recovery tool to recover old versions of the file in this way.
We recommend that you share alternative solutions if you know something in the comment field below. And please secure your future projects as often as possible.
