If you are a system administrator, you may have your reasons for hiding, removing or disabling administration tools in Windows 8.1 and preventing users from using them. This article shows how to display it in the Start Search menu or turn it off using the Group Policy Editor and Registry Editor.

Switch to the Windows 8.1 start screen, move the mouse pointer to the lower right corner of your computer screen to open Charms and select the’Settings’ option. Then select’Tile’ in the displayed section.

Then simply move the management tools to Yes.

Hide management tools with group policies

Start gpedit.msc to open the local group policy editor. Navigate to the next path:

User Configuration > Administrative Template > Control Panel

In the right pane Hide specified Control Panel items Double-click on them.

Click Enabled, and then click View. In the Display Content box that appears, type the following in the Value field:

Click Apply / OK / Save and Exit.

Disable management tools using the registry editor

Find and modify the DWORD value of StartMenuAdminTools as follows :

  • Disable management: 0
  • Enable management tools: 1

Deny access to the Administration menu

To hide the Administration menu from standard users, you can also do the following.

C:ProgramDataMicrosoftWindowsStart menuPrograms

Right-click the Administration folder and select Properties. Click the Security tab. Select All and click the Edit button. In the Permissions dialog box that opens, select All again, then click the Delete button. Then click the Add button, select the domain administrators and give full access and control. Click OK and Exit.
