Microsoft has recently released an update KB2822241 that allows you to force automatic restart after Windows Updates in systems running Windows 10/8 and Windows Server. If you have already installed the latest Windows updates from April 2013, you will notice that this update has already been downloaded and installed on your computer.

This function is useful in the following scenario.

By default, Windows informs you that you must restart your computer within 3 days if you install a major Windows update that requires a reboot. If you do not restart within 3 days, Windows starts a 15 minute countdown and automatically restarts your computer.

However, if the computer is locked, the countdown will start at the next connection. If you enable this new restart behavior, Windows 8 starts the countdown even if the computer is locked and forces the computer to restart to stop installing Windows Update even if it is not present on the computer.
