Cloud storage is mainly used to share files with others or to transfer files from one device to another. And as storage became more affordable, and in many cases free, the service gained in importance as an increasingly attractive backup solution, provided that people did not care about the management of their data by third parties.
Microsoft learned it quickly. That’s why we are continually starting to improve our OneDrive service. For example, one of the changes recently introduced in Windows 10 was the addition of the function ‘OneDrive Selective Sync‘. This feature allowed users to view files synchronized with their PC via OneDrive. This feature allows users to synchronize all files and folders in your OneDrive or select specific folders for synchronization and make them available locally.

In earlier versions of Windows – Windows 8.1, the complaint was that the synchronization function was not as reliable. People wanted the files they kept secure on their computers in the File Explorer to be made available offline so they could access them anywhere. This was not possible because it was only a reserved space.
Microsoft used reserved spaces on users’ PCs to display the files they had stored in OneDrive. People had to learn the difference between reserved spaces, i.e. files available online and files available offline, i.e. physically on your PC. Microsoft has received a lot of feedback on this behavior and has finally developed a selective synchronization function.
The new feature has given the user the freedom to choose which data they want to synchronize from their online OneDrive to their PC. This allows you to choose whether all OneDrive online files should be synchronized with your PC or only those you have selected.
The OneDrive icon is located in the Windows 10 taskbar, simply locate it, right-click or hold the OneDrive icon in the taskbar notification area and select Settings.
In the Microsoft OneDrive window that opens, select the’Folders’ tab and click the’Select Folder’ button.
To synchronize all files and folders on my OneDrive, select the option ‘All files and folders in my OneDrive‘ and click OK to continue.
To select specific folders to synchronize or desynchronize on your OneDrive
Select the option ‘Synchronize only these folders‘ and press the OK button.
All selected folders are now synchronized on your PC.
To check this, click the OneDrive icon on the taskbar and open your OneDrive folder in the File Explorer.
Hope this helps!
