In the current CCleaner 5.45 version of Piriform/Avast, it is difficult to disable active monitoring. This caused angry public reactions about the malfunction of the’Active Monitoring’ function. Even if you try to disable it via CCleaner Settings > Monitoring, it will start monitoring again on restart.
Active Monitoring allows CCleaner Free to monitor your installation for updates or new versions in the background, so you don’t have to worry about staying up to date. If you prefer CCleaner not to monitor your system, you can disable active monitoring by following the steps above.

Although the CCleaner Active Monitoring function offers a simple and effective way to clean up unnecessary files, it can sometimes be perceived as a real nuisance. An easy way to deal with this situation is to disable active monitoring if you do not prefer CCleaner to monitor your system.
Start CCleaner and select’Options’ from the main program screen. Then select ‘Monitoring’.
Of the following three options –
- Enable system monitoring
- Enable browser monitoring
- Enable active monitoring
- Enable active monitoring
Clear the box ‘Enable active monitoring ‘. CCleaner will no longer appear in the taskbar after closing. But the monitoring starts when the computer is restarted!
You must now deactivate the active monitoring of your parameters, then deactivate the CCleaner Start input with MSCONFIG
There is something else you should know. You can no longer close CCleaner with the’x’ button . If you click on’x’, the program is simply reduced to the notification area.
You must complete the program with the Task Manager.
In response, CCleaner said:
This data is completely anonymous, and by collecting it, we can quickly identify errors, identify pain points in the user interface design, and also understand on which functional areas we should focus our time. Most modern software companies collect anonymous usage data because it is very useful for prioritizing bug fixes and future improvements to the product experience.
You spoke, we listened. Here’s what we’re gonna do:
We will separate the active monitoring functions (debris cleaning alerts and browser cleaning alerts) and heartbeat (anonymous usage analysis) in the user interface and allow you to control them individually. You can enable all, some or none of these functions, and this functionality is clearly controlled from the user interface.
We will use this opportunity to rename the enhanced monitoring functions to CCleaner to make their functions clearer.
We will deliver these changes to the software in the coming weeks.
If you are bothered by the program’s constant warning pop-ups, read our article on turning CCleaner’s warning pop-ups off or off.
SPITZE: During the installation, CCleaner proposed to install Avast Antivirus on my PC. I missed that part and it was installed. I had to uninstall it. Don’t forget to refuse such an offer.
