While the Windows 10 May 2020 update does not change the way we use computers, it will come with a number of changes and additional features, such as the new cloud download option available for the “Reset this PC” recovery experience.
If you are not familiar with this feature, “Reset This PC” is a feature of the recovery experience that allows you to reset your device to factory defaults to correct performance, startup, memory consumption and virtually any software-related problem.
The operation is performed using a locally available image, but there is a warning. If this image is corrupted, the reset will not be successful, and you will need to use another method to reinstall Windows 10.
To resolve potential problems that may occur when you reset a device, the May 2020 update for Windows 10 introduces a new option for the restore function that allows you to download installation files from Microsoft servers instead of using the local image.
Cloud Download Feature
You can use the option to download the new cloud to get Windows from the cloud for reinstallation, rather than reusing your existing Windows files to create a new copy. This can be a more reliable way to reinstall Windows, and depending on your Internet speed, it may be faster. To get a similar result before, you would have had to download Windows and create a USB stick. However, since it is built into Windows, no additional steps are required to create a USB stick during installation.

How to Use Cloud Download in Windows 10
For Windows 10 Insider Preview Builds 18970 and later, you can start resetting this PC and select the cloud download option in the settings :
- Click the Start button, then select Settings > Update and Security > Restore.
- After selecting Keep My Files or Remove All, you will see the cloud download or local reinstall. The cloud download option connects to Windows Update via your current network connection.
Once you complete the steps, it takes over and resets your device to its default settings by deleting and reinstalling a new copy of Windows 10 downloaded from the cloud. How long this takes depends on your computer’s hardware configuration and the reset options you choose.
In addition, if you cannot start Windows 10 normally, you can access the cloud download option from the Advanced Boot Environment.
You can still use the locally available restore option, but if this option doesn’t work or if the user prefers to use the latest version of Windows 10, the new cloud download provides an easy way to reset their device.
