How to restore deleted Recycle Bin in Windows 8

Recycle Bin is the most important feature in Windows, which is introduced in Windows 98 and continuing with every Windows OS since then. If you have deleted the Recycle Bin icon from your desktop by mistake or for any other reason, then here we are going to show you how to restore it in Windows 8.1. It can be done either using UI, creating the folder, changing the group policy editor, using Windows Registry or using Microsoft fix it. This process can be applicable in Windows 8, 7 and Vista too.

How to restore deleted Recycle Bin in Windows 8

Using UI

  • Right click on empty space on desktop and select personalization option.
  • In the left side pane, you will find change desktop icons and click on it to open Desktop Icon settings box.
  • Here select the Recycle Bin check-box and click on Apply.

That’s it Recycle Bin will appear on your desktop.

Using Windows Registry

  • Press Win+X keys to launch RUN dialog box and run regedit to open Registry Editor.
  • Navigate to the following key in Windows Registry
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerDesktopNameSpace
  • Right click on Registry key and type the following and hit enter
    {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}
  • Now click on this key and in right pane, double click on default entry. In the edit string dialog box, type Recycle Bin in value data box. Value will show the Recycle Bin whereas will hide it.

That’s it, click on OK and exit and restart your PC for the changes to take effect.

Create a folder

Right click on the empty space on your desktop and in the name field copy and paste the following text and hit enter.

That;s it, Recycle Bin is created on the desktop.

Using Group Policy

  • Press Win+R keys to launch Run bar and Run gpedit.msc to open Local group policy editor.
  • Here select User configuration > Administrative templates > Double-click desktop.
  • Here double click on the Remove Recycle Bin icon from the desktop and then click on Settings tab.

If it is disabled or not configured then the icon will be shown, if it is enabled then it will hide it. Select however you want and click on Apply/OK and exit.
