The WinSxS folder is the location of the Windows Component Store files. Windows component memory supports the functions needed to install, customize, and update the Windows operating system. It is used to install, update, update, uninstall, enable and disable Windows functions and components. It is also used for system recovery after corruption or boot failure.

In most cases, the size of the WinSxS folder seems larger than it really is. If you have checked the WinSx folder properties, you will see its size – but this may not be its actual size. Although there can only be one hard copy of the file, more than one copy of the same version of a file can be stored in several places in the operating system and is projected from the component memory only by paper link.

If you want to analyze the contents of your Windows component store and see the actual size of the WinSxS folder, you must use the deployment image management and maintenance tool.
