This month’s Tuesday Patch updates came with many bug fixes and improvements. These are security updates and unsecured updates for all versions of Windows 10.
If you are using Windows 10 v1607, you can now download and install KB4494440 on your computer. This version uses the existing version of Windows 10 Anniversary Update to create version 14393.2969.
This compilation did not bring any new changes to the operating system. However, there are significant quality improvements that make this update recommended.
In this article, we give you a brief overview of the main improvements made to KB4494440 and the known problems.
Improvements and corrections
This update includes quality improvements. Some of the most important changes are:
- Provides protection against a new subclass of speculative runtime vulnerabilities called microarchitectural data sampling for 64-bit (x64) versions of Windows (CVE-2019-11091, CVE-2018-12126, CVE-2018-12127, CVE-2018-12130). Use the registry settings as described in the Windows Client and Windows Server articles. (These registry settings are enabled by default for Windows Client OS editions, but disabled by default for Windows Server OS editions).
- Adds “gov.uk” to the HTTP Strict Transport Security Top Level Domains (HSTS TLD) for Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge.
- Fix a problem that could cause a “1309 Error” when installing or uninstalling certain types of.msi and.msp files on a virtual drive.
- Fix a problem that prevents Microsoft Visual Studio Simulator from starting.
- Fix a problem that causes zone transfers between primary and secondary DNS servers to fail using TCP (Transmission Control Protocol).
- Fixes a problem that may reduce or enlarge the size of the text, layout or cell compared to the MS UI Gothic or MS PGothic fonts that Microsoft Excel expects when you use.
Security updates for Internet Explorer, Microsoft Scripting Engine, Microsoft Edge, Windows Storage and Filesystems, Microsoft Graphics Component, Windows App Platform and Frameworks, Windows Cryptography, Windows Wireless Networking, Windows Datacenter Networking, Windows Server, Windows Virtualization, Windows Kernel and Microsoft JET Database Engine.

KB4494440 Known problems
Here are some common problems that are described below.
Problem #1
SCVMM (System Center Virtual Machine Manager) cannot list or manage hosts’ local switches individually. If you do not follow best practices, a stop error may occur in the vfpext.sys files of hosts.
You can solve this error message by considering these two useful methods.
- Run mofcomp on the following mof files on the assigned host:
Scvmmswitch.mof port settings
VMMDHCPSvr.mof - Follow the procedures above to bypass a stop error in vfpext.sys in an SDN v2 environment.
Problem #2
After installing KB4467684, an error message “2245 (NERR_PasswordTooShort)” may appear, preventing cluster services from failing. This error only occurs when the Minimum Password Length group policy is set to 14 characters or more.
To solve this problem, you must enter 14 characters or less as the minimum password length and then set it as the default domain.
Problem #3
After installing the KB4494440 cumulative update, some actions, such as renaming files or folders, may fail and display the following error code.
“STATUS_BAD_IMPERSONATION_LEVEL (0xC00000A5)”
This only happens if you perform such actions on a clustered shared volume, for example, CSV. This can also happen if you do not use administrator rights to perform such functions on a CSV proprietary node.
To solve this problem, try one of these two solutions.
- Log in as an administrator to perform a similar operation.
- Complete the process from a node that does not require CSV owner rights.
