Features of Windows 10 editions in comparison
Windows 10 has many new features that vary by edition. Some features are common to all editions, while some advanced features are reserved for higher editions that are not eligible for free updates. Microsoft has published a table indicating the features that will be available in each edition.
The Basic Functions will be available in all four editions. These include the much anticipated Cortana, Microsoft Edge, Windows Defender, Fast Start with HiberBoot, TPM support, Battery Saver and Windows Basic Update feature. Continuum is also available in all editions so you can switch from PC mode to tablet mode and vice versa.
Customization settings such as lock screen, wallpaper, themes, sound customization, etc. are also available in all editions of Windows 10. You can also download themes and add them to your computer or tray.
Basic Security is available for all editions as Windows Defender and Windows Firewall.
Device Encryption will be available for all editions if the device hardware supports it.
Windows Hello is also available in all editions. However, Windows Hello requires special hardware to work with facial prints, iris inspections and fingerprints. Your computer must have this special hardware before you can use Windows Hello.
On advanced functions : Windows Domain is not available in Windows 10 Home. You must have at least Windows 10 Pro to use this feature. In addition, Group Policy Editor will not be available in the Home Edition. Enterprise, Pro and Education will be compatible with the GPE and the domains.
However, Group Startup Policy Startup Screen Control is not available in Pro. That’s not gonna happen at home either. It is only available for the Enterprise and Education editions.
With Windows Update, basic updates are available for all editions. The long-term service area is only available for the Enterprise Edition. Windows Update for Enterprise is available for all editions except Home. Enterprise Editions may delay the installation of updates, while home users do not have this option. With Windows 10 Pro, customers can also take advantage of the new Windows Update for Business update, which reduces administrative costs
The much discussed Device Guard will not be available for home and business edition.
