The Windows 8 User’s Guide indicates that Windows 8 supports the client Hyper-V. What is Hyper-V? Well Hyper-V represents hypervisor-based virtualization. Maybe Hyper-V was part of two earlier versions of Windows. Microsoft now plans to integrate it with the client operating system by integrating this service with Windows 8. Sounds interesting, doesn’t it? Yes, that’s true.

Let me explain step by step how this works.

Introduction : Microsoft Hyper-V Client is a flexible, robust and powerful client virtualization technology that enables IT professionals and developers to run multiple operating system instances simultaneously on their Windows 8 computer. This reduces costs by consolidating hardware and increasing efficiency through VM (Virtual Machine) compatibility with the Hyper-V server. Hyper-V is not only for programmers and developers – all Windows 8 end users can also benefit.

Installing virtualized operating systems on a PC was almost impossible on previous versions of Windows. Developers had to make an additional investment in setting up the network infrastructure by installing an additional machine with a loaded operating system and connecting it to a local area network or Wi-Fi. None of this is necessary in Hyper-V. You can create a virtualized operating system and virtual network using switches so that the application can interact with a computer on your own computer.

How it works

Hyper-V requires a 64-bit system with second-tier address translation (SLAT). SLAT is a feature of Intel & AMD’s current generation of 64-bit processors. You also need a 64-bit version of Windows 8 and at least 4 GB of RAM. Hyper-V supports 32-bit and 64-bit operating system creation in virtual machines.

  • First, you must install Hyper-V from the Windows function console on Windows 8. Simply check box Hyper-V and press Enter. Windows will restart and Hyper-V will be installed on your PC.
  • Second, you must create a virtual network. As usual, the network is created with switches, so create a switch with the switch manager on the right side of the Hyper-V Manager.
  • Finally, you must load the virtual machine to use this switch. Create a virtual machine by clicking New and then clicking the virtual machine on the right. You need an ISO file of an operating system to create a virtual machine. Assuming you want a Windows 7 virtual machine – make sure you have a Windows 7 ISO file. You will be prompted to install the operating system when you create a virtual machine. At this point, you must load your ISO file.
