A document XPS document is a Microsoft document format that allows you to archive content in a standardized format or publish it in an easily readable form. You can also use this format to ensure that no one can edit your original work. The XPS Viewer was introduced in Windows 7 and is also available in Windows 10/8.

A click on an.xps file opens the file in the XPS Viewer.

To open the XPS Viewer, you can also enter xps in the Start Search field and press Enter.

The file is xpsrchvw.exe and is located at C:WindowsSystem32xpsrchvw.exe.

The XPS Viewer allows you to view and manage XPS documents. You can also digitally sign them and specify who can access them for how long by changing permissions for the document.

If you do not use it, you can enable or disable it via Control Panel > Uninstall program > Enable or disable Windows functions.

Locate Microsoft XPS Document Writer and select or clear the check box. Click OK and complete the process.

UPDATE: Starting with Windows 10 v1803, the XPS viewer is disabled by default for new installations. You must manually activate or deactivate the Windows functions in the window .
