The first thing you should do if you notice that your account has been hacked is to report that your Facebook account has been hacked. A dialog box appears, asking if you want to report a hacked account.

(16) Alternatively, you can enter your name and your Facebook friend’s name.

Once you have entered the data, Facebook will search your account and present you with the corresponding accounts. Choose your account and enter your current or old password. Remember that if the hacker has changed your password, you can still enter the old password to access your account again.

Once Facebook recognizes your account, you will be asked to create a new password. Create a new password of at least eight characters containing numbers and special characters. Do not use others you have already used on Facebook. You should not use previous Facebook passwords because one of your authorized Facebook applications is likely to remember your previous Facebook passwords. If this application is the culprit (the application that hacked your Facebook account), you may lose control of Facebook again.

After creating the new password, Facebook prompts you to change your email password. If your email password (the one you use to connect to Facebook) is the same as Facebook’s, you should also change that password. Otherwise, simply click Next.

If you click Next, you will get a congratulations screen. On the next screen, you can enable additional security features such as receiving an email and SMS notification when someone logs into your Facebook account from an unknown device. I recommend enabling notifications for security reasons. You can then login to your Facebook account.

Set login permission

You will be prompted to enter the code that will appear in the text message on your phone before accessing your Facebook account. This two-factor authentication method continues to protect your Facebook account. You can enable logins on the Security tab of Account Settings.

Clean up the Facebook account

Shortly after logging into your Facebook account, you will need to cancel any changes the hacker has made to your account. To check the activity, go to your profile timeline and see if anything has been posted to your profile on your timeline or your friends’ timeline.

You can also check the message folder to see if the hacker has sent messages on your behalf. If the hacker has sent messages to people, you should send messages to the same people who tell them that the account has been compromised and apologize for any inconvenience the messages may have caused them.

Application cleaning allowed

One of the most common methods of hacking into a Facebook account is the applications we allow to use our Facebook account. Go to Account Settings and click Apps. This opens the view where you can view all the applications you have authorized to use your Facebook account data.

If you find an application you don’t recognize, delete it from Facebook by right-clicking the X button. You can also clean up the application view by deleting applications that are no longer used.
