Do you want to disable or permanently delete the Avast signature for all outgoing emails? Then you’ve come to the right place!

If you install Avast by default, an email signature setting will be enabled and will include one of the following messages in all your outgoing emails:

“This email has been sent from a virus-free computer protected by Avast.”

“This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software.”

“This email is free from viruses and malware because Avast Antivirus protection is active.”

The message is usually attached at the end of all outgoing emails if you use Outlook, Thunderbird or another email client installed on your PC. It will also be added if you use Gmail, Yahoo Mail or another webmail provider via your web browser.

This function can be annoying if you do not want to tell each recipient that the message has been scanned for viruses.

Both settings are enabled by default, which is very annoying – especially because you may not know that this signature will be added to your emails until you see one of your sent messages. I tried to send myself a few emails to trigger this signature, but without any luck, so it seems to be added at random.

Disable Avast signature for outgoing emails

  1. Open the Avast user interface and click on ☰ Menu ▸ Settings.
  2. From the left menu, select Protection, then click Main Shields.
  3. Scroll to Configure Protection Settings and click on the Mail Shield tab.
  4. Uncheck the box next to Add a signature at the end of sent emails.

Your outgoing emails no longer contain Avast’s signature. You can reactivate this setting at any time.

When you use Avast Antivirus, including the free version and some of the main desktop email clients (Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, Zimbra Desktop, eM Client, Inky, Claws Mail), Avast automatically inserts the footer signature into all your own outgoing messages.

From version 2016 onwards, if you use a web client (Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Outlook Mail, Live Mail) in Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer, Avast will also automatically insert the footer signature in all your own outgoing messages. The only browser in which the Avast signature is not inserted is Opera.
