Have you ever seen an error in Windows File Explorer that says the file you are processing has a long path ? This is because Windows only supports paths smaller than 260 characters. You may have files with paths longer than this length, but Windows Explorer would not be able to perform certain actions with this file. In most cases, the source of these files is other operating systems and environments in which these files are supported and executed. If you want to delete such files from your computer, we have developed a small utility called ‘SuperDelete”’ that can help you.

You can then get a’Source path too long’ dialog box. Microsoft suggests you try moving the file to another location. But if that doesn’t help, using SuperDelete.

SuperDelete is a free command line utility for Windows that allows you to delete files and folders with very long path names. This utility is very useful if Windows Explorer is not able to delete some unwanted files whose path is longer than 260 characters.

This small tool is very easy to use and configure. All you have to do is download the script and open a CMD window and execute commands to delete the files. SuperDelete supports files with a path up to 32767 characters, which are well above the standard limit of 260 characters. Thus, the tool should work well enough for normal users.

If you have administrator rights, you can also skip all ACL controls and delete a file or folder directly. ACL or Access Control List is the list of access control entries that define access rights to an object for a trustee.

To get started, go to the release section of the GitHub repository and download the latest executable. Optionally, you can download the source code if you want to integrate SuperDelete into your projects or compile it yourself. Once you have the executable file, open a PDC window in that folder. You can now run the following commands to delete a file or folder:

superdelete.exe path

In the above command, the path is the full path to the file or folder you want to delete. When you execute this command, a confirmation message is displayed. Confirm the prompt and your file will be deleted from your computer.

superdelete.exe -s Path

This command works similarly the only difference is that it does not display confirmation. It will proceed directly and delete the file without being prompted.

superdelete.exe --bypassacl path

This command implements the function we talked about in this post. If you have administrative rights on the disk, you can bypass all ACL checks, even if you do not have enough rights in the ACL list to delete this file. This is useful when moving a drive from another machine or Windows installation.

SuperDelete is an amazing little tool that does the job. The tool works completely from the command line, and it can be difficult for some users to access it. But overall, this tool works when you delete files with long paths that Windows Explorer cannot access.

You can also try the Long Path Fixer for Windows 10. With this tool, you can correct all too long errors on your Windows computer. The tool also has a user interface that makes it easy to move or delete files with long paths. TLPD is also a long file path finder to detect files with long paths.

Expert Tip: This repair tool scans the repositories and replaces corrupt or missing files if none of these methods have worked. It works well in most cases where the problem is due to system corruption. This tool will also optimize your system to maximize performance. It can be downloaded by Clicking Here
