Enhanced privacy mode allows end users to lock out another user if necessary or limit the display of your presence to your contacts. The default setting is “Allow all users to see my presence”, but you can change this status to “I want only contacts to see my presence” by following the instructions below.
Changing a contact’s privacy relationship
Follow these steps to view your contacts based on their relationship to privacy:
- Click on the Relationships button in the area directly above your contacts (the other options are Groups and Status).
- To change the privacy relationship you have with a contact, follow these steps:
- Open Lync 2010 and right-click a contact in your contact list, point to Change Privacy Relationship, and then click a new privacy relationship for the contact.
- By default, contacts are assigned the privacy relationship to colleagues when you add them to your contact list. If you have contacts that you then assigned to another relationship, you can reset the confidentiality relationship to Colleagues by clicking Colleagues or Automatically assign a relationship.
To Block Someone in Skype for Business
By default, each new contact you add is associated with the colleague’s relationship. Compared to the workgroup, they have less information. On the other hand, workgroup contacts in Skype for Business can almost instantly see more information about you and your meeting places and ask for your attention, even if your Do Not Disturb status is active. If you want to set up the contact privacy relationship and block someone from accessing Skype for Business:

Enable Privacy Mode
By default, all contacts, except those that are locked, can see your presence status. To change the privacy settings, you can do the following:
Click the gear icon in the main Skype for Business window, click Tools and select Options.
In the Skype for Business – Options dialogue box, click Status and then do one of the following: Click Status and select Options :
Select I want everyone to be able to see my presence, regardless of system settings (override the default settings).
OR,
Select I want the system administrator to decide – currently everyone can see my presence, but this may change in the future.
Conclusion
Skype for Business gives you a brief description of what privacy means in each of the options. For example, your friends and family can see all your information, but they won’t see any of the details of your meeting, which will only be shown to people in relationships between colleagues or workgroups.
Workgroup contacts can see everything your colleagues do, but they can also see your mobile phone number. And they can contact you even if your status is set to “Do Not Disturb”, which usually stops any contacts or instant messages that you do not initiate yourself.
The further down the list you go, the less information a contact can see, until you get to the blocked contacts that you can’t reach at all on Skype for Business.
