The causes of ntdll.dll error messages can be very different. However, most ntdll.dll errors result from a damaged or corrupted version of the DLL file itself, corrupted hardware drivers or problems between Windows and other programs.
Ntdll.dll errors can sometimes cause your computer’s hardware to crash, but this is rare.
Ntdll.dll error messages can occur before or after using a program, during program execution, when starting or stopping Windows, or even during a Windows installation.
The ntdll.dll file is usually located in c:\windows\system32 and in very old versions of Windows (e. g. Windows XP) in the c:\i386 directory. The file ntdll.dll is a legitimate dynamic link library (DLL) file and is called “NT Layer DLL”, which contains important functions for the Windows kernel. In other words, it is a central component of Windows.
