The Action Center function of Windows 10 may be familiar to Windows Phone users. It stores notifications of all important events such as updates, maintenance and security alerts in a single location. Some users reported that after the upgrade to Windows 10 “October 2018 Update”, version 1809, they did not have notifications in the Action Center. Here is a quick solution.

When the action center receives a new notification, a toast banner appears above the taskbar. If you miss a notification, it will be queued in the Action Center.

One of the problems introduced in Windows 10 version 1809 is the failure of action center notifications. The problem seems to be related to the functionality of the Windows 10 background application.

The icon was always a bubble of empty square text, as in your right figure, when there were no notifications, and only contained horizontal lines when a notification was received. Now it has the lines all the time, and when the mouse pointer is moved over them, a popup appears with the inscription “1 new notification”. There is no superimposed number, as in your left figure. When I click on the icon, the empty notification area opens with the text “No new notification”.

Using Windows PowerShell

Type powerhell in Start Search and press Enter to open the PowerShell window. Copy and paste the following command and click on Enter :

Get-AppxPackage | % { Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppxManifest.xml” -verbose }

Restart your computer to check that the problem is solved.

However, if the above option is enabled, but the Action Center notifications still do not work, you should try the following.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Privacy -> Background Applications.
  3. Disable the Run applications in the background option.
  4. Restart Windows 10.
  5. After restarting the PC, open the settings again and activate the mentioned option.
  6. Restart the operating system.

This sequence should restore the notifications.

Rename the file Usrclass.dat

DAT errors, such as those associated with UsrClass.dat, usually occur when you start your computer, start the program or try to use a particular function in your program. However, it is easy to remedy. Here’s the procedure!

Press WinKey R to open the Run dialog box, copy and paste the following text into the box, then click OK :

Local application data%\Microsoft\Windows

This folder should open immediately in Explorer.

Look for a file named UsrClass.dat. The easiest way is to search for it or press the “U” key on your keyboard until you find it. If found, right-click on the file and select Rename.
